Faculty Academy

Today is the day: Another semester of blogging with a 395 class has passed and I present at the Faculty Academy on my experiences. I enjoyed everyone’s contributions, although I was hoping for a little bit more of interaction between the bloggers. I will talk about the possible reasons I see for the reluctance of some of the bloggers to participate.

  • Marcel,

I enjoyed your presentation, and the questions about engagement that you raise are excellent ones. I wonder if thinking about the blog as something else, like a collection of Germn language resources the students bring to the discussion and share with one another might change the dynamic a bit?

  • I like Jim’s idea of have the blog as a place to perhaps aggregate resources that the students and you bring to the class. Everything from the serious to the silly (German music videos on YouTube!). Hoping you will blog more about your experience with your classes.

  • Thanks for your feedback, Reverend and Neo-rev. If you scroll down, you will see that I started uploading things, like the music video “America” by the German band Rammstein. Rammstein is usually the trump card in German class that gets even that kid in the last row who loooks bored to death excited and engaged. Not such look this time. Some of the students got some stuff on their blogs, too. I guess, I will try next time the “multi blog” – everyone is blogging on one site. That might bring people closer together and the media more “in their face”.
