Seminar at the Holocaust Museum

During the first week of January, I participated in a faculty seminar at the Unites States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washington , D.C. Under the title The Holocaust: Perpetrators, Victims, and Bystanders, 20 professors from all over the US discussed historiographical and pedagogical approaches to teaching the Holocaust. While most of the participants were historians, we had also Germanists, a philosopher, and a psychologist. The seminar was led by Professor Doris Bergen of the University of Toronto. The discussions were very interesting and lively.

While I had been to the USHMM before, I was surprised to learn about the wealth of archival documents they collect. One will find a lot of microfilmed documents of other archives worldwide. A quick look into the catalog showed me that a number of documents from the NS Propaganda Ministry are there. That could save me a trip to Berlin.

Also, their website is just amazing and has tons of resources, from texts to videos, audio, catalogs, and so on.
